TR2/3/3A TR3 hardtop.....price range and should I grab it?

Country flag
Offline
Came across a factory steel hardtop for a TR3. What's a price range and should I snag it? My brother has a TR3 and may be able to use it.

I can't imagine that these are falling off of trees at this point. Any closed items on eBay that will give an indication of pricing?

I doubt that Blake will fit under it.

Data points:

1. I sold a decent, straight and complete hardtop needing minor rust repair and new window gaskets, etc., for $200 this spring.
2. In 2002, I saw a solid one (albeit without rear window) go unsold at a VTR convention.

So I guess it's a matter of where the hardtop is and when it hits the market, i.e., who's looking that day/week/month. I'd think one ready to fit to a car ought to go at least $400-500, but....

What is a steel TR-3 hardtop worth? Mallard gave me one a couple of years ago. I think as friends we traded TR-3 parts for TR-3 parts. Thanks Mallard. So it probably cost me nothing. I had to have it painted ($500.), then I bought a new back window and had to have it installed ($250.), Then to install it on my car, I needed the mounting hardware from TRF ($200.), not including my labor I figure that I have $1,000. invested in my hardtop. Is it worth it? Yes, it transformed my car into a TR-3GT, it stands out among other nice TR-3s, changes the look of the car. Very neat accessory for any TR-3. The price of used hardtops is determined by how bad you want one. The key to buying one is the brackets and mounting hardware. My best guess is $250. to $500. for a steel hardtop, later original fiberglass hardtops $100 to $300. Good Luck, Bill C. Mesa, Az.

Any pictures to share? I bet it looks great.

There are only a couple of LBC that I think look good with a hard top, TR3, XKE and TR6. The price range $200 - $400 I bought mine from Paul Oglesby in Madisonville, KY 8 years ago for $250, add back light from Moss UK $235 and hardware from TRF $200 and paint $250. And yes you should do it!

I say yes as well. I wish I could find one for the Elan. The one on Her MGB has been with me since 1971, I'd never let it go. It's been on four different cars by now.

Ummm.... ~sometimes~ it's convenient. Monsoon season and the three days of winter we get.
