TR2/3/3A Tr3 gas pedal shaft socket

Hi tr3 people my questions has to do will the ball socket on the counter shaft of the gas pedal. Does the little ball knob for the throttle where the carburetors linkage hooks up to the shaft arm sit on the engine side or the fender side in the engine compartment. This sounds like a little thing, but it places the throttle linkage as it travels in front of the intake manifold at different angles. If the knob ball socket is on the fender side then there is hardly any angle, but if it is on the engine side then there is some angle that could bind. I do not know and it could be hook up either way.

I probably did not explain my problem clearly. The part I am referring to is the vertical arm on what Moss calls the control arm in the control section of the engine detail. https://mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29124. The little ball stud can go on either side of the vertical arm and Mosses picture is not detailed enough to show what side. The outside or fender side makes the most sense to me, but mine is on the inside creating an angle that might serve a purpose that I am unaware of.

Regards George

I think the answer is 'fender side". Lookee here:

For a real mystery ponder what that sheet metal tab is for in the picture... about 2.5" long and welded to the tub at both ends... there is another one on the opposite side too. That 'tab' is the reason I happened to have this photo handy.

Hi Geo you are the poop. The picture is perfect. With respect to the tab Geo, the 61tr3 I am taking apart had the rubber boot for the steering column wedged into the slot and it looked perfect. The boot had been put there it looked like from the factory. This would also fit your theory if your car is old enough to have the interchangeable left to right pedals and steering swap.

George -

If you're talking about the long horizontal rod that connects to the accelerator linkage at the bulkhead, the ball points to the fender at the rear, and to the engine at the front.

And, Geo, I've often wondered what those sheet metal tabs are for. My assumption has been to secure the tach cable (left or right hand drive).

Those tabs ARE for the boot on the steering column. Sp53 is right on! There is one on each side because, just like everything else on the body tub it was built to be either right or left hand drive without being modified. the boot folds around the corner and tucks under the tab. Real first class eh? Oh well that's why I love these cars.

And that's why I love this forum - learn something new all the time! (Now I gotta go tuck the steering shaft boot under the tab!)
