Anyone buy this new TR3 fuel tank on e-bay??

TR3 fuel Tank on e-bay

It's keeps coming up all the time, and was wondering about the quality. This guy also sells an aluminium version for about a $100 more. Is it worth going to aluminium?? I've read that ethanol (which is in all the gas around here) is corrosive to aluminium.

Hi Art:
My experience with this seller has been very good. I bought a spit tank from him and it was shipped fast, quality was great, and it was an overall good experience.
Personally I would not have an aluminum gas tank sitting in my back seat, But thats me. To me, steel has a better chance of holding together in a rear ender. Besides Aluminum seems to be a high maintenace item.
My thoughts, Regards, Tinkerman

The 18 guage he claims he make them out of is somewhat thicker material than the 22 Guage the orig. is made out of. He claims in the future he will ask $400.00. I imagine if you bought material enough to make your own, by the time you had the pieces bent {even if you cut them yourself} then welded together. Add the cost of the fittings. Paint for the outside. I`m thinking $225.00 sounds pretty good if you are needing a tank.
I,v seen his add on the net in several places besides ebay.

The only thing I woudld do if I purchased one of these tanks is have the inside coated {if it isn`t already coated} before I instaled it.
Aluminum would save a few lbs. But at what expense? And another thing to keep in mind with aluminum, come time to remove the steel fittings for any reason might turn into a nightmare due to electrolisis and corrosion.

Nope! I believe for me it would be steel. Stainless steel would be very nice!! If he even makes the tanks out of stainless it`s gonna be pricey for sure.

The early TRs up to TS 59999 had one sort of gas tank and after TS 60000 it is different. If you are interested, better find out what you need and ask questions.

This guy is big into Jags. He has some MG and TR2-3 bumper stuff, and he does triple plate chrome. Anyone seen his chrome work?

The end result is that, rather then ordering on e-bay, I called the guy up. I liked the way he answered my questions and he gave me an overall good impression. I ordered the tank. It will be shipped out tomorrow. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thirsty.gif

Thanks guys for your input. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thankyousign.gif

Art- Trying to read into your icons after my post??

Art:
Let us know the end result. Quality, weld apperance, Weight verses the old one, inside coated or not, outside coated and with what, how many baffels, how the baffelds are attached.

Information that will be useful in making a decision.

Some of us might be looking for this item in the future.

Those are the questioning confused icons. I had no idea what your original post meant.

You might call him and suggest it. All he needs is a reaonable sample and he just might do it.

Seems to be some difference of opinion on this. See the Jag guys thoughts on this forum on this item..

Might be an installation issue?
