TR2/3/3A TR3 for sale - comments?

Thing that caught my eye - Does the car have after market exhaust header? Pipe seems squashed at the bend and just poking through the frame without any hardware,it would rattle something terrible. For the price,I think one could do better.I like the nylon tie ties holding the temp gauge wire.It gives a classy period look?

The rear deck lid does not fit at the bottom corners, not sure but I don't see any seams at the ends of the sills. Car looks like a fantastic 20 footer. Sometimes you can tell book by it's cover.

In my opinion, I just don't trust the guy!

Some of the talk reminds me of a house I didn't like because it needed some work, so my neighbor bought it, fixed it up, and sold it for $140,000 profit in only 4 months. It had potential that everyone else ignored.

I think the comments here may be a bit harsh. I'm a big fan of anyone keeping up the TR spirit, generating enthusiasm, energizing the sports car and parts markets, and keeping the cars in circulation--and on the road.

Someone might buy that car, put some money into making it more true to its heritage, digging in with open eyes, fixing hidden problems, if any, and love every minute of owning it, driving it and looking at it.

As we all know, wonders can be done with these cars, and not always at great expense. The key is to buy carefully and know what you're doing.

I may or may not run down and look at it. However a huge thanks to all who posted.

Every time I toss one of these things out there, you guys explore it's issues and I learn so much from just reading your posts. The knowledge here is amazing.

Huge thanks for that.

BTW, the seller sent me his website link if you are interested: www.thecarcollectionllc.com

The car in question was originally blue. That's all I got from him. Not sure I trust him either....but if the body work is done right, I am not too concerned about mechanicals....to a point anyway.

One other option before you go down is to contact a local Triumph chapter and have someone down there look at it for you close up. The input here has been great but nothing beats seeing it up close..and the locals may already know him and his work. Just a thought.

Methinks Randy's lookin' fer an excuse to head south for a few days...

If you have $20K to spend before your drop it on that car with who knows what lurking under the skin in my opinion you'd be better off buy a car that is less pretty but where you can see and honestly access what is needed. So drop $7K on a rebuild-able but straight car and then make sure it done right.

Will take longer, but at least you know where you stand on it.

I agree with Al, get "boots on th' ground".

I don't know about the TRs they have but I've wander'd into their pitch sporadically...

This is ONLY my opinion, mmmkay? The inventory ranges and some of the Ferrutzi examples I saw weren't worth what was being asked for 'em, there was a 300SL in the showroom once and it was nowhere near what it should have been for the money... and a "real" Cobra which was stunning. Caveat emptor, its an upscale hog lot. Some examples are great, others not so much. Go down and have a tire-kickin' session.

BTW, I'd wait a week or so... even Miami is sufferin' from cold weather issues just now.

We can be harsh about cars for sale but that's each guys opinion based or 'real' experience.
I suspect each of the harsher comments come from guys that have experienced a good looking car really being a lousy vehicle.
I have, and it was ablack car that looked great...good body man did wonderful things...
Our knowledge of the car really makes us use a critical eye and I wish I'd of had this kind of audience on a few other car buys.
I think the real motivator here is the 20k....and the owner/dealer description, for that kind of dough we expect more so get picky.
If he were asking 15k, noted some discrepancies then it would be a diff point of view.
Go and look at it, get a TR3 club member to do it if you know him, or get an inspector.

I think it looks great! Go buy it!

Seriously though, it could be a good deal. What are TR3s going for now? I haven't seen one that looked that good in pictures go for $20k in a while, but pics are next to sight unseen, because a lot of stuff can be covered up. Other hand, maybe the pics were taken of the bad spots (bent spoke, floorpans) on purpose...

Check the VTR or TRA chapter in Florida and see if anybody knows the car.
