Just putting my 57 TR 3 (16844L) back together after 3 years and have misplaced some of my "before" pictures. Does anyone have good pics of a proper engine compartment or know where some are on line?
Click on "Restoration Photos" on the left menu. Be careful because the engine compartments are different about mid-way through the TR3A to TR3B production years.
Don's wiring looks neater... I should trim the lengths on thoose wires to the voltage regulator but just hate to shorten wires as you can never make them longer later.
As noted, changes occurred over the years... most notably the voltage regulator got turned 90 degrees. Yours will have a blanking plate (like Don's) whereas mine does not.
Some things vary (color of wiper motor, color of heater pipe, etc. Your best guide might be the TRA concours manual (let me know if you need a copy) and of course if you can tell what yours was originally.
My wiring harness is the original one that came with the car in 1958. There were a few rough areas where I wound black cotton sewing thread around it and up till a few years ago, I never lost any points for it. I'll have to do it again in those areas.
Fot the TR3A that I'm doing now, I removed all the old cotten covering and sent it all to Rhode Island Wiring and it cost much less than a new harness. See attachment.
Notice also the difference in my gas lines to the carbs. Mine are original and correct for a TR3 and an early TR3A. Geo has the later carb feed line set-up.
Thanks guys, nice work too. And I know whay you mean about not wanting to shorten things, as 4 of the wires in my loom have come up short. If I could just pull a little from here and glue it on there...
... or you could just look in the Moss catalog for bulkhead grommets (p.69) and blanking plugs. Shows the locations of all the bulkhead fittings. Teri did a great job but Moss had it already.
