Hi all,

Does anybody know how to remove a lock cylinder from a TR3A outer door handle? Is there a special key? I have the original key, the tumbler turns, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the tumbler out....

It's been a long time since I had door handles...but I thought those cylinders unscrew from the back. The ignition pops out, as you are trying, but I think the doors have to be removed to get those out. The trunk on my TR2 is the same...you must remove the lock and cylinder from the back. Hopefully someone else will confirm.

If you are interested in matching tumblers, here is my learning curve on doing that (JP got mad at me, since he's a locksmith and lives by a code!?!)

As I sit here, trying to remember my door days...check the bottom of the door handle cylinder to see if there is a pin?? if so, then key in and push the pin. Sorry my memory is failing...
 
I took my "reproduction" boot lock to a locksmith because it I could not remove the key when it was locked. He could not find a way to disassemble that reproduction lock. We found that by pulling up on the handle the key would come out.

What are you trying to accomplish with the cylinder. It either has a pin holding it in or a special wafer in the back of the cylinder. If you just wants it to come apart. I would be glad to assist. PM me and i can tell you where to send it!

Thanks all.... I figured it out. I had an old door with a handle that was bad enough to sacrifice itself for an autopsy. There's a cap that slides over the square actuating arm and is staked in place. I filed off the staking and removed the cap, spring, washer, and escutcheon (that bolts to the door). There are two pins - one that holds the square rod, and the other that secures the lock. Drove out the one holding the lock, and with the key inserted it slides out. Now the handle and escutcheon can be chromed (unless anybody knows if an original lock will fit in a reproduction handle....).
