I think it's funny they'd worry about "excessive porosity" and yet install that huge vent hole in the top.

Randall, the commision number of the certified paperwork has the "O" at the end, as well as "Overdrive" listed as an option. It took longer to get the paper work, because they double checked the number I gave (without the O) and said it didn't exist. So, I am left to assume that during one of the previous restorations, parts from a 59 were used (motor and trans at least), and they left off the O when a new tag was made.

Randy, I looked closer for any green markings and none can be seen with the naked eye. However, my camera has several filters, and I took the following picture with the "seafoam green" filter turned on. Although it doesn't appear so in the picture, I promise, the color of the markings exactly matches the Sharpie pen (also seafoam green) sitting next to it.

I think it was more to trap any sand from the foundry. However the use of Glyptol was/is very common.

Sounds reasonable. Also, we all know oil is supposed to leak from the pinion, not the diff itself.

So nobody thought my "sea foam green markings" was funny? Seriously?

Today I had the axle bearing holders pressed out with a special tool used to keep the hub from distorting that a fellow club member made.
 
I have internet problems at home, but when they clear up I'll post a pic of the cover with the paint I mentioned. It's just like someone took a paint brush and made about a 2" mark on the back cover.

That's the color I was talking about - but that dab of paint on the back is way too neat!

Frank - I never lost a point at TRA because I don't have a daub of coloured paint on my diff cover, but the judges will sure notice what you have done. Then they will decide it's too nice and dock you three points, one for the perfect circle, one for the bolt heads not painted and the third for that red fill plug.
 
Hey Don. I'm a little embarrassed, but I can't take any credit for these little detail touches. The credit has to go to Brian S. BUT, man this is so slow.
