TR3 Dif Pinion seal and speedy sleeve

I've removed my pinion seal et.al. and the drive shaft coupling looks pretty good but there is some light scoring after 61 years.
Is this an issue in your experience(s)?
Has anyone used the 'speedy sleeve' deal that Moss M sells that slips over the coupler shaft?

Speedi-sleeve works great and is relatively easy to install.

Recommended if yours looks like it won't seal. If it's just light scoring, you can clean it up with emery paper. But for $35 for the speedi-sleeve, you know the seal will not leak.

How does a speedy sleeve work? Does the scored part have to be turned down?

Yea, you're right, too much labor to take a chance.
The speedi sleeve is a thin press on sleeve that fits over the coupler shaft where it enters the differential/connects to the pinion gear and engages the pinion seal. The original couplers (pinion flange) often score in the area where the seal rides and will cont. to leak with a new seal. The sleeve gives a slightly larger diam and smooth surface for the seal.
p.s. I used the two screws in the seal and slap hammer tip I found on this site to remove the pinion seal easily.

Comes with a little tool to press the very thin sleeve over the damaged sealing surface. No turning down of the original part is required unless there's tall ridges or gouged up pieces.

So you use this tool to press the sleeve over the hub and all the way home. There is a very small score on the sleeve that tears to leave the sleeve intact. Then break away the part where you pressed and peel it off around the hub.

I've used a speedi-sleeve on the crank shaft pulley hub. I can second Peter's comments and assure you it is easy to install.

I need to replace the pinion seal in my TR3A and was getting ready to post a question, but since you started this thread I'll ask you. Can you remove the rear pinion seal while the rear axle is in the car? Do you need to completely remove the drive shaft, or just the rear flange connection? Thanks.

Dave,

You'll have to unbolt the driveshaft from the pinion flange the use an impact wrench (preferred) to remove the flange nut from the pinion shaft.

R&R the seal then replace the nut and torques to spec (I don't remember..80 ft. lbs?).

As long as you don't go beserk with an impact on re-assembly you shouldn't have to worry about resetting any pinion shims.

I didn't even read his page. HAHA. Just my own notes on the subject from doing my 4A and 3A seals.

You can leave the dif/axle in place. Put a few blocks of wood under the drive shaft to push it up and out of the way. I dropped my drive shaft and exhaust (easy) as I am also replacing the tranny rear mount and main seal.
