TR2/3/3A Tr3 dash removal help

Trying to remove dash in my tr3a and have the instrument cluster out all screws and nuts out. The kinda u shaped support that goes from the steering column bracket to the scuttle that helps hold the dash in wont let me get it off. I have the nuts off of both end but can't seem to move it without unbolting the whole mess. Is there an easier way?

Hi Eric,

I don't think that you need to remove that clamp. There is one fixing clamp on the left that has a slotted end on it that steadys the bottom of the dash. If you remove the screw from the bottom of the dash, that stay should just pull away. I don't believe that clamp fixes anywhere else directly to the dash...it does attach to the brackets that hold the heater though. Here are some photos, hope that they help.

Another photo -- showing what was left when the dash was out. Drove into Tucson (pre-dawn) for painting. Probably broke a half dozen laws.

Dave's seems to have some supports (steadying the steering column) that mine didn't.

I'm not sure, but I may have had to loosen those 3 nuts on the firewall (engine side) to wiggle the dash free, then re-tightened for 'Mr Geo's Wild Ride'.

Dave and Geo, that's what I call <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic"><span style="text-decoration: underline">service!</span></span></span>

Th picture here is before I removed anything. The nut that is closest to the tach cable is attached to a forked rod. On the other side of the steering column there is another nut. The two of them are the tine end of the fork. At the top the rod is connected to the scuttle, between them is the dash. The top is connected with two bolts that cannot be removed, the rod and dash have to come off towards the firewall. The problem is that the ends exposed when you remove the nuts in the picture are preventing the rod from moving, unless I remove the plate holding the steering column.

K Eric,

A few more photos

I think that this is the area that you are referring to

Remove the two nuts that are on the posts holding in the steering column bracket and the escutcheon.

As you can see, the dash is slotted where they fit behind the escutcheon on both sides.

Here is another shot of the bottom clamp that you will have to detach as well.

Hope they help

The piece that I am talking about is #8 in the diagram

You don't need to remove #8 to get the dash out. Just loosen the nuts that are holding it in. My second pic shows number 8 clearly.

Cheers,

Dave

From the pics that Dave posted the dash has slots that will let me slide the dash downward with out removing the steering column support. I will have to get the dash past the two bolts on both sides before trying to pull it downwards.
