Aloha All,

What is the difference between an adjustable steering wheel and fixed steering wheel control head? How do you identify each?

Additionally, regarding the self canceling feature. There is a disk that turns with the steering wheel that has an arm that engages the fixed part of the control head. This arm rotates a ring that operates the self cancel legs. The ring has two small arms extending out from it. Does the arm on disk that turn with the steering wheel go between the arms on the ring?

Thanks in advance.

Safety fast,
Dave

The TR Register in England has a Forum similar to this one and Clive Eldon who wrote the book on how to dismantle a TR control head has recently added photos to that Forum how to put it all back together again. Maybe it can help.

The steering wheel for a normal TR has the chrome spokes more or less horizontal with the 3rd arrangement of spokes pointing straight downwards. The adjustable steering wheel has the 3 sets of chromed spokes equally spaced at 120 degrees apart uniformly around the steering wheel.

BTW, the adjustable steering wheel is in the same position as the normal early side-screen TR steering wheel but when you adjust it, the wheel comes out closer to you. So if you are a big person, having an adjustable steering wheel on your TR is of no advantage.

One writer described the wheel as "adjustable through the full range from 'too close' all the way to 'much too close'".

Since the new control head comes without the tube it is the same on each . If you are not putting on a new(TRF) control head,I think there is a nut loose (somewhere behind the wheel) This re-pro is much the exception in that its BETTER than the original part in all regards(my opinion)at least I was thrilled with mine......
