TR2/3/3A TR3 Carpet Install

Moving on to installing the carpeting in my 1960 TR3, The kit came from TRF and looks good. I have placed a sound deadner on the floors and have the pad to use yet. How do you smooth the wrinkles out on the transmission tunnel? I suppose it should not be glued as to not being a mess whenever the tunnel has to come out. I am thinking about using the padding and screwing the carpet down in spots, maybe using velcro for the foot sections. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks, Donnie

Hey Donnie,

Just put mine in the other day...

The tunnel carpet is held with 6 snaps. Two on each side relatively low, and then one on each side higher up and just forward of the shifter. I used some padding on the tunnel, and cut holes (in the padding) to allow for the snaps. Mine originally had a single square of insulation under the carpet, that was glued to the tunnel. I did not use any glue on any of the carpet installation...it all worked out with screws and snaps...

- The rear tunnel went in first and is just sitting there on its own.
- Next came the rear floor carpet, which is held with the seat tracks.
- The rear deck next...it tucked under the rear trim panel and used 2 snaps on the front of the flat area of the deck
- Then I installed the outer kick panels on each side. Both held with screws by the door opening, and the left forward by the dimmer switch bracket. I used nothing in the forward side of the right front, as it tucked nicely under the forward floor carpets. Don't forget the forward door fuzzy seal as these go in.
- Next came the forward floors, with padding under it. I used the mat clips on the firewall for the front, and the rear uses 2 snaps on each side.
- Now the tunnel went on, with 6 snaps and padding.
-finally, the center firewall, which took some trimming, but tucked in very well and stays put under the forward floor carpet.

So far there is no glue. If I were going to use glue, it would be for the top of the forward kick panels, and perhaps a dap for the rear tunnel cover.

Have fun...it's really rewarding when you finish and see how great it looks with fresh carpet!

John
