TR3...Carbon fouled plugs:Update

I put in NGK BPR6HS Spark plugs and set the SU mixture at 10 flats down.The NGK ES6 plugs aparently have a 3/4"reach as opposed to the 1/2 reach of the 6HS which is OK but the plug might be harder to remove if it becomes fouled. Ran great.Still a little carbon fouling so another flat or so lean and its running like a champ. Slight fouling on #3 plug so opened the plug gap to.028 from .025(hotter spark?).Other plugs are a nice grey colour. I'd forgotten what a blast this car is to drive. And that exhaust note at full song!

With a typical TR cast-iron head, it's not too likely you'll do great damage when you go to remove those 3/4" reach plugs in the future, but at the very least it will take some extra effort! I still remember, with some horror, the struggle I had back in the early 1970s when I was working on a friend's Mk2 Spitfire (a family of eight brothers, at least five of whom got to use the car at one time or another...but I digress!). Someone had put 3/4" reach plugs in that as well, although the early Spitfires took 1/2" reach plugs. They'd been in a long time, and it was a bear to get them out! Needless to say, correct plugs went back in!

I did install the BPR6HS spark plugs which are 1/2" reach. I consulted the tech at NGK and he recommended those. He told me that the "ES6" plugs that so many have recommended on TR forums are 3/4 " reach so I stayed away from them.
