TR2/3/3A TR3 Brake flare question

Replacing the brake line from the master cylinder to the 5-way union. Is the flare inside the restrictor valve on top of the union a "British Bubble"? When I look inside the fitting it appears to be a bubble type (hard to see down underneath the carbs). I am asking because the tube I removed (installed by a PO) is a regular 45 degree double flare (!). It was not leaking so I am not sure what's going on here, just lucky?

Hi,

Sometimes a standard double flare *will* seal okay when tightened down, although mistakenly used where a bubble should have been. However, it's better to use the bubble in the first place because it will give a more sealing surface all the way around. (It's probably more of a concern and prone to leak the other way around, if mistakenly using a bubble where a flare is called for.)

I am 99.9% sure that should be a bubble fitting. To be certain, did you know you can unscrew the restrictor from the 5-way connection, to take it out and look at it more closely (plus the restrictor is pretty easy to disassemble to clean out and insure there is no gunk in it)?

Thanks Alan,

I also was able to find a spare restrictor valve in a friend's spare parts box this afternoon; it does have a bubble flare so I'm sure that mine will also (I doubt the design of this part ever was changed). Maybe I'll remove mine anyway like you suggested.
