I don't really care much about panel gaps as I realize it was never consistent when these cars were built. However I've installed new hinges and now if I'm standing at the back of the car the bottom left of the boot lid and upper right are above the fenders by a noticeable amount. The criss cross support bracket that gives the boot lid it's rigidity does not touch the rubber stops under the lid....maybe 3/8" to 1/2" gap. My question is: Should this suppoort bracket be flush against the rubber stops?

There were (are) two different type designs for the boot lids. The early TRs had the cross pieces made of channel which were spot welded to the interior of the lid. The post TS 60000 TR3As and TR3Bs had the tubular "X" reinforcements which I suspect you have. If your TR is an early one, the four corners for the opening when you look into the boot with the lid up should have 90 degree corners. The post TS 60000 should have round corners and a different rubber rain seal. This may be where your problem lies.
