TR2/3/3A TR3 A Gear shift question

Does the anti rattle spring and plunger at the bottom of the gear shift lever face the transmission or the diffy?

Thanks, Tinkerman

I'm not convinced it actually makes any difference at all.
But on the later TRs with curved handles (that only fit one way), the anti-rattle plunger is to the rear (towards the diff).

On the same topic, what is the theadsize for a TR3 gear shift lever? I bought one of ebay, and it looks like it is 7/16" with a fine thread pitch, but the knob I got from Moss looked like is 5/16 course. Anyone know?

Yes, it's a real strange size...7/16" x 32 tpi....
