Looks to me as though that should work fine, if you connect the yellow wire (positive) from the relay to ground, and the black wire (negative) to the fuse. But it would probably be best to contact SPAL tech support and ask them; as there might be a suppression diode that isn't visible/mentioned.
 
I'm happy to report that I fired up the ol' TR3A after ~10 years and, as the temp climbed up to 195, the SPAL kicked in and lowered the temp to 185. This is the solution to my overheating problem.

Now I had to address all of the "garage rot" issues: Bad hydraulics (clutch and brakes), probable stuck clutch, and flat-spot tires.
