tr3 2" gauge bezel

Any one know where I can get a 2" dash gauge bezel? It's for the ammeter but I assume that all 4 gauges are the same.

Re: tr3 2" gauge bezel

Yes, I think they are the same, at least from what I've experienced, however, I do think I remember reading of two different types. I probably have a few in the basement. Let me check later and I'll post back if you haven't come up with anything by then.

Re: tr3 2" gauge bezel

Are you talking about the glass itself, or the chrome ring around it?

I believe the glass interchanges between the 4 gauges, but the chrome ring for the ammeter is definitely different. For the ammeter, it's actually part of the gauge housing rather than being just a removable ring. To disassemble, you bend the tabs at the back and pull the movement out of the back of the case.

Re: tr3 2" gauge bezel

So after looking a little closer the ammeter is Lucas and all of the other instruments are Jaeger. The bezel is different on the ammeter and I had planned to replace it to the correct, but now wonder if it was changed and the bezel on the Lucas gauge was a little different. If so I guess I'll just keep it that way. I'm about to tackle new interior including the dash and I just thought I might as well get the correct bezel.

Re: tr3 2" gauge bezel

It is just a little bit different visually, but not much!

Randall,
Is that California sarcasm? Looks out of place to me but I've a thing about mismatched gauges.

Uh, no, just the only photo I had handy that had both an original ammeter and 2 out of 3 other original gauges.

As far as the obviously (I hope!) non-original temperature gauge, well, I have a thing for gauges that work.

If you have a better example, then by all means, let's see it!

Re: tr3 2" gauge bezel

You might try these guys. When I bought my car it had the incorrect Tach in it and I was able to get the correct Tach thru them. You could email them, they may have the correct ammeter.

So is the Lucas ammeter the original? And were all of the bezels thee?

Yes, the ammeter was made by Lucas. The photo I posted above shows original, unrestored, ammeter, oil pressure and fuel gauges.

Here is a shot of someone else's car (sorry, I forgot to record whose, please let me know if you recognize the photo), showing very nicely restored gauges in a later (post-60K) panel:

Re: tr3 2" gauge bezel

That panel looks like one of those offered on ebay. There's a guy there that rebuilds them and offers them for about $600-$700 IIRC.
