TR2/3/3A TR2on ebay

Back to the TR2 ... !
Did all lhd TR2s have the wiper motor on that side? Looks like it also has later brake and clutch master cylinders, stainless steel wing beading (therefore possibly a TR3 bonnet) and TR3A seat covers. Maybe it should be called a TR2A!

The TR3 was introduced at TS8637, but the wiper motor on the right hand side (as sitting in the car) was retained until TS12567. It didn't matter whether the car was LHD or RHD. The later braking system (Girling) was introduced at TS13046.

The car is definetly a mish-mash of whatever parts were available!

Edit: I'm not one where originality means that much in mass produced cars, as I have modified my TR3 extensively during it's restoration. But, I have a TR3A. Lots of those made, so I don't feel bad about making the mods. There are enough purists around that will keep TR3's and TR3A's as original. But, a TR2 is a different animal. Less then 9,000 made, and probably not too many left. If I had one of those, I would really try to keep it as original as possible.

I read a story about a TR owner who stopped in traffic and behind him, a huge semi-trailer stopped. They were stopped for about a minute or two and maybe the driver of the semi was eating lunch or something similar - maybe talking on his cell phone - well anyway, he looked forward, saw a huge gap of about 30 feet to the car in front, but he forgot that there was a little TR just down below him where he wasn't looking. He rear-ended the TR in broad daylight. Three or thirty brake lights would not have helped. The front of the semi demolished the rear half of the TR.

True, it does appear that ther are a lot of originality issues
with the car, and from this comment on his ad:

"Hagertys "Cars That Matter" price Guide, shows a TR2 in number 1 Condition
at $52,400. My reserve is not that high, but is not inexpensive. The most recent
comparable sale found was a 1959 TR3 in Number one condition that sold in one of
the January Scottsdale auctions for just over 49K"

It would appear that he is looking for top money for this car, possibly in the
high 40's. For that kind of money I would expect to see a lot more and better
quality photos of the car. There's no pics of the under side, no good pics of the interior or dash.

The car also appears to have a TR3A trunklid and it looks like it has TR3 seats.
If he's looking for a price in the high $40s which his ad appears to infer for that kind of money I would expect
the car to be a faithful restoration of a TR2, 'warts' and all. Not a TR2 with a lot of
'improvements' so that it's a mishmash of TR2 & TR3-3A.

I emailed the seller and he responded with a legthy explanation.
He got the car petty much as he restored it with TR3a seats/trunk lid. He put the HS6 carbs and high port head on when doing the 87.5 mm pots (so non original head too) to get the most out of the motor. He put the newer brake/clutch system on.
He does have the original build plate but has a new one too (the old in bad shape) that will be mounted.
He seems to be forthright but doesn't seem to understand that a #1 TR2 would have to be correct to be a #1 car and I suspect he's looking for 40k or so just because it is a TR2.
He's responded to some of my questions on the bottom of the advert but I still don't know how you can mount a hood without the side lift the dot posts beyong the B pillar.

Is the front bumper correct?
