Looking closely at the pics it appears to have H6's in place.
Still nicely done and worth some good money but not the kind of dough an original matching car should bring.
 
Ok, the car intrigues me...I also note there are no lift the dot posts around the doors and I presume around under the stick cover (that has no lift the dot's either)...how does one put the top up?

I guess you don't. In fact, it kind of looks to me like there are no hood sticks either, and the cover is just laid in place to hide that fact.

Note that the chrome rocker cover and covered fuse block are wrong too.

Nice looking car, but nowhere near 'correct'. And if I were trying to sell a car for that price, I'd supply lots of closeups, and not so many 10 and 20 foot shots.

Does it strike anyone else as odd that the commission number plate seems to be missing? It might have been painted over, but I can't even see an outline. And whoever painted it went to great lengths not to paint the body tags; why not the commission number plate?

Nope, the center brake light is actually correct for early TRs. The corner lights were only turn and tail. Don't recall the change point offhand, but it was after TS13571L. The turn signals were moved to separate "beehive" lamps, brake lights moved to the corners, and the center lamp became a chromed license plate light only.

I'm planning on some relays to make the corner lamps double as brake, turn and tail in the American style.

My '57 (TS16162) had the center brake light.

If you were so inclined, you could look for the Lucas relay box used on the MGA 1500, for example...and keep the car more "original" or "period appropriate"! :smile: See DB10-style flasher relay.

Of course, I suspect it could be done less expensively (albeit less authentically)!
 
Hmm, that's an interesting thought Andy. I think I have an original DB10 somewhere, although I was under the impression it came from a big Healey. No idea if it works, though.

BTW, TRA gives the change point for TR3 brake/turn signals as TS15601, while Moss gives it as TS18913.

Looking at my SPC, I see some confusion as there is a note saying that P/N 108481 (the corner lamp) was used as a stop-tail lamp for USA, Belgium and Holland only, from commission TS15601 and future. However the change for the license plate lamp is given as 18913, so I surmise that the note is incorrect, at least for US models.

Unless somewhere in there are the cars for the above markets that also had the (bolt-on?) separate plinths for the L594 turn signal lamps? Or it well could be somewhat of an error, given that the L467 chrome-cover number plate lamp was around long before (i.e., found on MG-TD models)?

All we need to do is find several known original, unmolested cars in that range and see how they are equipped! :laugh:

The '57 that I sold a while back had both the separate plinths and the center red light.
 
Randall, I've added a seperate light under the stock cover and it fits fine so I have 3 brake lights, the turn signal and night rear light. I did have to put another hole in the bodywork (small) to clear the socket but figures it was worth it for safety sake. Very bright with the rears illuminated and the brake light on. The little bit between is rolled up tape to keep the bulbs from contacting each other.

Mickey, I've seen that too, during the changeover there was a lot of mix/match.

Interesting. So did all 3 lamps light for brakes?
 
I beleive the seperate rear plinths carried turn signals only but who knows how they wired them during the 'change over' using whatever parts were there.
I guess they had to get creative with the wiring harness too.

Hmm, seems to me that would make the turn signals hard to see with the brakes on. But perhaps I'm mistaken.

Just got the new lamps (from TRF) going the other day, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how bright they are. I guess the old plastic lenses got darker over time or maybe the new ones are just thinner; but even with just the tail lights on, I can clearly see the red light shining on the wall, under all the fluorescents in my garage. And the turn/brake filaments are even brighter. Should be no trouble at all seeing them in full daylight!
 
No, you can see the turn signal just fine.
Having the 3 brake lights is a bit reassuring, especially during daylight hours.
 
Only trouble I have is that the rear brake lights are too low to see from behind in close traffic. Mine are nice and bright too but the rollbar mounted 3rd bl flashes when the brake is applied. Make me feel (a little) more secure.

That is a good safety mod....if someone tailgates too close I'm usually carrying a pistol and fire a few warning rounds across their bow....
