TR5/TR250 TR250 Rusty Plenum

This is my first post - hello to the group. I recently purchased a TR250 and discovered that the plenum is badly rusted. On the driver's side there is a hole where the drain fitting used to be. On the right side the entire bottom of the plenum is gone. In researching the problem I find that a new replacement plenum is not available. Does anyone on the forum have a used plenum that could be made to work? If not, does anyone have any ideas on how to repair the plenum while still installed in the car? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi John-

Say your name sounds familiar - I think I may have met you before around Fond du Lac?

So sorry to hear about your rusty plenum, but welcome!

That is a pretty complicated piece as part of the bulkhead, so not knowing any more I would try if I were you to repair in place. The part number I think is 811989, which crosses over to the TR6 and potentially the TR4 - although my TR4 factory catalog lists a different number. If you were to patch in place you might be able to splice in some patches from donor parts cars - I think there is potentially a TR6 body in the club and I can point you to a TR4 rusting quietly about an hour from the Houston area. I think it would be best though to assess what you have in terms of bad metal and see what kind of patching might work.

Cheers
Randy
