TR5/TR250 TR250 for sale - I like the Steering Wheel

This is "my car" for sale on ebay. Or at least how I imagine it could be....Green over black 250 w/panasports just like mine. Except this one runs and isn't covered in dust. Is that right, only 3400 TR250s for the US?
My question is, what kind of steering wheel is that? I really like that wood rim design. The plastic standard 250 one on mine has begun to splinter, and I don't like it anyway, so I need replacement ideas. This is exactly what I am looking for. (I won't be buying a steering wheel for awhile though, until everything mechanical is working.)
 
It looks like a Moto Lita wood rim wheel, probably 15" diameter. Moss has them , probably other vendors in the States as well
 
the TR250 was essentially the same thing as a TR5 with the extra stuff required for U.S. import. It was only called the 250 in the U.S. According to "The Triumph TRs" by Grahm Robson there were a total of 11431 TR5/250s built in 67-68(2947 TR5s/8484 TR250s). Only 1161 stayed in Great Britian (and reiceved the petrol injection, lucky bloaks!) the rest were exported. He diden't actually break out the U.S. export number, but he did say that the TR 250 was for the U.S. market only. that kinda hints at the 8484 number for total U.S. import.

That's gorgeous! The wheel does seem to be Motlita, I have the same on my TR4a, the boss kit to adapt it to the column is quite expensive, I also have a Derrington wheel which is too flexible.
The 8484 number would include Canadian cars, perhaps 800 or so, and maybe Mexican, but those would be quite few I imagine.Simon.
 
Nice car, I've read that the fuel injection on the Euro spec cars was problematic, and even though it showed more horse power it lacked real pull in the mid range so it wasn't quite the loss one would expect..
 
I love when people make statements of rarity in their sales ads -- things like: probably less than 1,000 left in boneyards.

By the time the TR-250 arrived, in America and the UK, people were already beginning to restore old cars, and save new ones. The survival percentage of TR-250s is probably much closer to 50% now, since many have been restored from cars previously considered too far gone.

There are easily more than 2500 TR-250s running the streets (or gathering dust in garages) in the US. That doesn't even classify as rare! Now a factory TR-5 in the US, now that's rare, since I know of only three.

But that is a nice looking car. The TR-250 looked good in so many different colors -- red, green, dark blue, black.

I need luck to get mine on the road. This one is a Fantasyland twin to mine. Exact same car and color combo, but fully restored. Mine hasn't been on the road since 1992. The lights and horn came on for the first time in years this weekend when I put a battery in it, it will be a long road to go before mine looks like the one for sale.

I think 8000 is closer to the actual US number of 250s available. You are right about the survival rate of this model. There are 180 members in my local Triumph club, and several have 250s. Not as rare as the ad makes it to be, but looks like he will see abou $16K for it, which warms my heart. (and my wife's, sort of.)
 
The other problem is guys taking the serial number from a 250 and creating a "bitsa" from TR6 and TR4 parts cars. At least one of the 3 or 4 250s in our club is a mongrel.

I guess the only way to tell would be to write to BMH with all the numbers and see if they match. I wrote away for my BMH certificate because my commission plate is missing. Hopefully, I should have a "numbers matching" 250.

I don't see the harm creating a "bitsa" 250, as long as you don't try to sell it as anything but that.
