I haven't posted here near as much in recent years as my car has generally been running well and I haven't undertaken any new projects on the car last few years (and in the last year or so bought another car that has been eating up my time and resources).
However, the TR250, which I redid most everything on between 2008 and 2010, mildly modified for autocross, but still quite streetable, had been out of commission for the fall and winter, longest period since I got it done 15 plus years ago.
What, Why, Where, How? I like to autocross it, my little local group keeps getting more and more competitive, it is no holds barred formula libre, I got
some Bridgestone Potenza dedicated autocross tires. The car got much faster in a curved line, but it put stresses on the car, last autocross of the year, I win I am club champion. Starts out great, then my doors start popping open, adjust, try again, same thing. Quit.
Hard core autocross guys say put a roll bar in to stiffen it up. I don't want to compromise space for top or tonneau and I still want it streetable.
Anyway, back to the doors, I thought I needed to adjust the catch plate on the body in to make it close tighter, but it needed to go out, I was only getting the first catch, and it is a double catch or click function--anyway, that is my nugget of wisdom, the rest is just me telling car stories and checking back in.
Anyway, dedicated wheels and tires sold, I will also add that getting ultra competitive was taking the fun out for me, though I could consistently beat the stinking Miatas. Will be a mid pack runner back on street tires again this year.
Funnest thing was two of the quickest cars out there last year were old, despite their being lots of Miatas, random Porsche, Corvette (ungodly power and stick, just too big for a tight course) and such. Someone will say these cars aren't as quick as an ND Miata at autocross, but the Miatas are basically stock or close, these cars aren't, Z is much more modified than mine, and has a better driver.
