TR2/3/3A TR2 question from a newbie

Sorry if this is a too-basic-question, but I have noticed when looking at photos of early/mid 1950s TR2s, some have a narrow piece of accent trim on top of the fenders that runs the length of the car and some do not. What is the deal on this? Was it an option, an upgrade that came on later models or something else? Thanks.

Yes the original plastic trim fitted to TR2s was much more discrete than the stainless fitted to later TRs. Many restored TR2s have had the later stainless beading fitted. I believe that the plastic trim is only available in limited colours and many owners prefer the look of the stainless steel beading.
I will stand corrected, but I believe that the bonnets on TR2s were slightly wider than those of the TR3 and 3A because the TR2 trim doesn't go along-side the bonnet.

TR2 Wing Piping

good luck and let us know how you make out

According to Bill Piggot, the body color wing beading was repalced by polished aluminium or stainless steel at TS8637...he also states that is when the TR3 is introduced.

There are a few cars out there whose owners have chosen to fill in the gap between the tub and fenders with bondo as a cosmetic "upgrade". Perhaps you've seen some pictures of some of these...

BTW, stay away from the bondo 'upgrade' on TR3's as you periodically need to remove the front apron to service the radiator. The wings/apron were designed to be removed for ease of repair/assembly and to work on the front engine bay (remove steering etc.)
