TR2 up-date, Check THIS out!

Drivers side all one color! Satin black DP primer. Wheels are Valspar spray can red.
Now I gotta get the car turned around so I can get to the other side.

Looks great Banjo...I think that you might have inspired me to bolt my panels back on tomorrow..

Cheers,

Re: TR2 up-date, Check THIS out!

The black primer works for me - very serious vintage rat rod look to it. I like!

Re: TR2 up-date, Check THIS out!

I sense the motivation factor is kicking back into high gear; well done.

That crank is out of spec. I have the good one sitting on it's bearings in the good engine block I'm going to use.
That one could be machined and used with undersized bearings, but I'll likely not be the one to use it.

Love your car...Jealous of the challenges ahead. Keep us posted!

Re: TR2 up-date, Check THIS out!

Great. Now you're project is further along than mine.

Did you only paint half the scuttle? Are you forgetting the old 'as long as I'm here, I may as well...'?

Re: TR2 up-date, Check THIS out!

I am actively suppressing the old "as-long-as-I'm-here" syndrome. I need to get this car functional. The need to do everything absolutely correct is what has stalled this project for years. I'm now on the "I just gotta do it" kick.
Yes, only half the scuttle is painted. Where I have the car parked right now, I can only get to one side to work on it. So I painted half just to cover up the bare metal. Next I'm gonna turn it around, and get to the other side. Then I'll sand down the paint in place, and repaint the entire scuttle to avoid the dry spot in the center.
My goal is to have the "bodywork" done before winter. then, next summer can be mechanical work. Maybe I can be on the road by the vintage next year.... Or maybe not...

Hard to do at first but it'll come to you.

Beat-to-fit, paint-to-match can be fun and very liberating.

Dude, that looks fantastic!

Re: TR2 up-date, Check THIS out!

I understand the space issue. I made myself some car dollies from some cheep Harbor Freight dollies (about $20/pair) bolted through some scrap 4x4's with 2x4s to be sure the wheel doesn't rotate. It gets the car high enough to work on the body panels without jacking. It can easily be pushed around the garage and from side to side.

Ben:

Looks great! I agree with the "Get 'er done" attitude.

I bought a 1275 Spridget parts car a few weeks ago (just to pull the engine for my race car). But I am going to "save" the car rather than cut it up (it's really not too bad). I'll stick my spare 948 engine in it and do a semi-rat rod deal similar to your plans.

I know a lot of folks prefer to have everything "just so" and that's fine if that's what you like. But as long as the car is safe, I'd rather drive it sooner rather than spend many, many months (or years) making it look perfect.

I agree with KG. "Liberating".
I look forward to hearing about your progress.

Does that "curb feeler" have a light in it?

Don't make light of my tools, or how I use them (it doesn't have a light or a curb feeler). The screwdriver was simply sticking in the fender bolt slot so the picture could be taken after I reformed the leading edge of the dog-leg patch. All that's holding it on right now is a pair of vice grips and a 'curb feeler'. If I had a car in better shape, I wouldn't have to be doing a complete body-off, but I'm sticking with the 'as long as I'm in there' attitude. So far no regrets, and I still have the TR6 to drive. -I'll catch up to Ben eventually. Or not.
