Tr2 hood---I was cleaning out the barn and moved around some tr3 sheet metal I have had since 1975. I knew what I had there--- I thought anyway, but when I looked closer at the hood the hood has no fold on the back edge. I remember John saying his tr2 only had the cut edge with no fold on back. Are there any other differences on a tr2 hood? They must inner change with a tr3 because I bought this whole 1958 car in 1975.

The TR2 hood will have four air vents at the back and front brace bar will have two sets of holes drilled for the double spring latches

Thanks Marv the hood only has 2 vents. Did the 1957 and 56 tr3 have that cut edge on the back of the hood without the finish fold on the back edge?

Yes, the early TR3's also had the rough edge at the rear...I am pretty sure it is all the bonnets before they added the raised plinths.

I have owned a 1958 TS29xxx since 1973, and it has the fold on the back of the hood and flat panels on the hood and deck lid. I stripped it in 1973 by hand and the car was red on top with was Apple Green Lacquer from factory. I do remember at the time the hood was in primmer and I do not think it had the Green underneath. I remember that because paint remover would not work kinda sorta on the lacquer. The lacquer turned to maybe light gel, and I had to use lacquer thing to get off the lacquer

I just restored is 27036 and it is a 1958, but I used a 1959 hood. Both cars have flat panels also--- But what is different is the first hood I found with the ruff back came of 27036, but it was dented, so I went with the 1959.

After all that, and with the limited information I have on the subject. Heck I knew nothing about the ruff hood deal until John commented on it. I am convinced the change happed around TS 27000. I had great visons of people begging me to sell, but now —oh life

So the 55 and 56 should have the rough cut hood, but the 55 has 4 vents and the 56 has 2 vents. Does that sound generally correct? Marv you have by experience become one of the few that would know.

Because I find it interesting to discover something new about these cars, I will show what I think is correct for the 56, 57, 58 hoods. I have a 58 hood with a smooth hood no raised hinge and a 90 degree bend on the lower edge an earlier 58 hood with a smooth top and a cut edge, so it looks like a 58 could be either way. It looks like the 56 has a rivet and a cut edge because of what Marv and Mike stated and Mike’s picture. So, I guess the 56 is the unique hood because it has 2 vents, cut edge, and brass rivets on top to hold something-- probably some kind of backing for the hinge. And, TR2s are different—like Marv said.
