TR2/3/3A TR2-3 Commision plate question

I have a general question about the early TR2-3 commission plate. On the plate under patents it has patent No: 630816 - First speed synchro. But the gearbox on the TR2 thru TR3A's didn't have a synchro on first. What is this referring to then?

Interesting question, but it says that the patents protect features of Triumph Motor Cars...not neccessarily only the TR2-3. There must have been some other cars produced by Standard-Triumph that had first gear synchros. That's my take on this.

Hi Martx-5, I thought that might be the reason but this version of the plate, as far as I know, was only used on the TR2s & early TR3's so it just seems odd, if that's the case, they would have patent info on the plate for a feature that didn't pertain to that particular car. Puzzling...

That seems as reasonable an explanation as any! For example, the three-speed (on the column) gearbox in the Triumph Mayflower is an "all-synchro" box. I'm not sure, but since the Standard Vanguard used basically the same gearbox, I think it also was all-synchro. And it was that box that formed the basis for the TR gearbox, so... ?
