TR Hood ID Badges

My TR250 I am restoring has three serial number, federal certification, ID type badges affixed to the underide of the hood or bonnet, I definetely need to repaint the thing on both sides, I want to preserve these items, any thoughts or experience? my current ideas lean towards careful taping (which still would likely be less than ideal) or removal and reattachment maybe with a heat gun (risking tearing/destroying etc. the things).

The two attached to the firewall on the passenger side of the engine bay do not have anything to do with any type of Federal ID or certification. They have to do with the body pressing number and then an assembly number. One of them should be painted over in body color (if unmolested). The unpainted one should be close in sequence to the actual chassis number and could end in "CD". The chassis number is what Triumph used as a "VIN" number until June of 1979 when they switched to the universal 17 digit system. The plate with the chassis number should be located on the left hand/drivers side inner fender and should begin with "CD".

Shawn, I wonder if the reference to "badges" actually refers to what I'd call stickers or decals affixed to the underside of the bonnet, such as those showing ignition timing information?

For example (for a Stag, but the first image I found), from an eBay auction, particularly the one in the upper left of this image:

Glemon: TRF has them.

Good point, when I hear badges, I think metal plates and rivets.

Yes the decals, and yes, thanks for the reference from TRF I checked Moss and VB and didn't find anything, I have taped mine off pretty well, they are in pretty good shape, but may replace at least the black decal as it is screped in a couple spots

I taped over the Arizona Dept. of Transportation tag on my car just because I thought it was unique(being from PA). It survived pretty well.
