TR cooling fan pictures

It's finally warm enough to get out to my shop. I've wanted to take these pictures for comparison for a while and here they are:

This picture compares the two flat style fans found in TR2-3(left) and TR4-TR4A (right) models

Next is the "rare" 1968 TR250-early 1969 TR6 (left) compared to the "yellow" fan from TR6 models (right)

Finally, the rarest TR "tropical" fan mounted to a custom aluminum hub for my 4A.

Notice the rake of the blades in the side view. This should put out some serious whoosh!

Thanks for sharing the photos of the various fans.
On my TR3 I installed the square tip yellow version with a custom shiney aluminum adapter.
However, now that you showed me the serious Whoosh version I will not be able to sleep knowing that there is a better way yet.
I think our winters are definitely way too long if we have time to do these kinds of things.

The TR250 fan has a very nice Dowty-Rotol look to it.

The whoosh model was a factory option on TR4As called a tropical 6-blade fan. It is rare to find one and I have only seen just a couple on ebay through the years.

This one was purchased on ebay listed as a 1969 TR6 fan (oops). Normally they go for well over $150. But listed as a 1969 TR6 fan, I stole it for $15! I lightly blasted the alum with walnut shells, then masked and repainted the black.

The fan hub was made by a TR6 racer who makes all kind of aluminum stuff for TRs. Since then I inheirited my own 1940s SouthBend metal lathe so I can make my own parts (once I learn to use it.)

The fan of the BMW 2002 does fit perfect to the TR 3/4 crank extension. It has 5 blades.

Cheers
Chris

Good to know. Several are available on ebay for $30

The pictures are great!!! I to am looking for an increase in the whoosh factor for my TR3 more details about the BMW fan, and any other fans people have found to work better than the stock fan??

I checked out the 2002 fans and they come in both 360mm (~14") and 400mm(~15-3/4"). These are much larger than the TR fans so I might just have to try one out. I don't have measurement of the depth of the fan though.

Just measured the 6-blade yellow TR6 fan 12-3/4"

the main problem with the standard TR fan is that they'll loose their fan blades. They can cause damage.

The BMW fan does fit very well, just the bore for the screws has to be enlarged a little.

I have sold my BMW fan recently because I use an electric fan blower.
