Hi Guys, maybe this has come up, but here it is anyway.
While staring at my forzon AC pump on my TR8, I decided
that it did look like something off a mid 80's GM.
Checked the part number, found a matching one on an old truck out in the yard, pulled it and hey, I got a match.
Question, the hook up's look the same side by side, but
what about the tread for the bolt holding the hose?

Be careful with swapping in compressors. The TR8 system uses a superheat (?) switch rather than high pressure switch to cut in the cooling fans, to prevent burning up the compressor. Make sure that's what you have, if fitting in a stock system.

There is a NAPA replacement, still available, that is a direct fit. Part number 3620206.

Yep - that's the compressor. There's a series of relays and a "Ranco" device that conrol the A/C and radiator cooling fans. Kinda complex, but not too bad, once you get into it.
 
The "ranco" thingie is a thernmostatically controlled switch.

That's th' compressor. The Ranco control can be "tuned" to parameters.

Ok, napa # cross's over to Murray, 58231.
Got those in stock, but the napa listing shows switch type is high pressure,
but I need to find one that is a "ranco thingy" thernmostaticaally controlled?
And the ranco thingy is up under the dash? it can be fine tuned?

If your system is original, the Ranco switch will be under the four relays at the left front corner of the engine bay. It has an off-white plastic housing, and you'll see a line coming out from it which is tied in to the refrigerant.

That looks like the same 'Ranco' valve used on the Stag, but the Stag unit is a pressure switch, not a thermal switch. The line ends in a flare fitting, which is connected into the high side at the receiver/dryer.

It's function is to shut off the compressor when the pressure rises high enough, but the interior control is still calling for more cooling. IOW, it regulates the high side pressure when the system is operating at full capacity.
