Wedge TR 8 Turn signals and brake lights.

They seem to be problematic as well. The second from the left on the top row of fues was blown when I got it and I put in a 35a Lucas fuse from one of my other cars for now. Maybe that was an issue. Yesterday I replaced the flasher and the brake light switch at the pedal and all was well with the world. Came back today to have my wife drive it home from the shop and right from the start she had no lights.

Thoughts from the wise masses?

Come on guys - where is everyone?!?!

We have a new Wedge owner here that needs our help!

(Mickey and Don - your word play cracked me up)

Ok Ok , I'll try to put my 2 cents in. It is British and if you
have owned a Brit car before you know about the ground circuits having to be in good order. Didn't somebody suggest pulling them and cleaning the connections. Now my Wedge has all lights (exterior) working at present, knock on wood, but on my 6 I removed all 1 at a time and cleaned and then followed a web page about soldering a tab of material on to rebuild the ground connect. Seems to work on the 6.

Don't forget to clean the contacts on the fuse panel. I was almost stranded in Los Banos CA one night because of no lights. Reseated the fuses and was OK

Thanks Phil, Although MUCH cleaner than your agv MGB fuse panel, they do appaer to be a bit dirty. I will get a small bore brush in there on Saturday. I'll go ground hunting under the dash that day as well.

Carl, as i said before I haven't had the problem on my 8 but the 6's problems with the grounds usually are at the lights.

I never had any trouble with the turn signals other than the fuses that need replaced. The head lamp motors on my DHC have kicked my butt. the electic system is troublesome but at least it is usually easy to diagnosis and repair

Dropped another 35a Lucas fuse in this evening before a nighttime run with my son to get a car. In doing this I found the other one I tossed in during a rush was a 50a fuse. Voila! I have the turn signals and brake ;ights back. For how long, I do not know. I guess I'll order up a pack of 35a Lucas fuses for the glovebox.

Carl, I've had similar problems working through prior owner neglect on mine....I've found that fuses and cleaning the fuse box are key, as are several spare/fresh bulbs. At the rear, the light sockets on mine were a little loose and I needed to tighten/compress the contacts a little to make good ground with the light housing they twist into. As mentioned earlier, pretty simple once you go through the basics of sorting, but a little more complex than the MGB's I'm used to.

I know this isn't much practical help for a "right now" problem, but when my TR7 was brand new it had a wide variety of bizarre electrical problems that took months to finally sort out. Some examples from the service tickets: "All interior lights out - loose connection (unreadable words) at switch." "Light switch wired backward." "Replace turn signals, work outside but not inside." "Brake light out right rear (this happened 4 times in 5 months)." "Check radio (static)." Fun times when you're 25 and single; not so much when you're 55 and married, which is why the car has been sitting in the garage for over 15 years. But I just put in new brake stuff and rebuilt the carbs, so soon it will be heading to a restoration shop if I can find somebody willing to take on the job. Not much luck on THAT so far!
