Wedge TR 7 HEATER

Entire dashboard needs to come out, then entire climate control box needs to come out. If you are getting the dreaded coolant drip on your right foot and you have a car with AC, then it is most likely the heater control valve and not the heater core. Personally I have never seen a heater core go, but they are getting to the age where it is going to start happening.

Not a fun job, but not impossible. Just take your time, and once the dash is out, the rest is not bad.

Helps if you have an "assistant".

And since your diabetes most likely rules out the extra lubrication of a six pack, a substitute refreshment is requisite.

Oh, and some of the folks here think using all caps in a message means you're shoutin' at us.

Welcome to the forum, working under the dash on any of these LBCs is a pain in the neck, back, butt take your pick. But, the results are worth it. Check out the valve as was suggested in an earlier post and good luck.

Dale and tr8todd both suggest checking the control valve. Where is this valve located and how does one go about checking it? I have the leaking water from the AC in the passenger side of my TR8.

It is located straight up above your right foot. It mounts about 10 inches higher than the bottom of the dash board. It is a valve that is shaped like an L with a hose coming out of each end. The heater control lever attaches to it as does a capillary tube. One hose goes into the heater core, and the other hose goes to the firewall. The valve has a bracket that is riveted to the side of the climate control box. To get at it, you have to lay on your back under the steering wheel and look up. On a scale of 1 to 10 on the difficulty factor to replace, this is an 11. And one other thing to bear in mind. The valve, which is identical to one used in 70s and 80's Volvos, is unavailable. Diligent internet searching will reveal some solutions and possible aftermarket replacements.

Thanks for the valve info. 11 on a difficulty scale of 1 to 10? Hmm. Think I'll wait till spring.

Think Randy found a suitable replacement when he did his.
Maybe he'll pop in if he feels like slumin after the Ferrari forums.

Passenger side? You sure it's the valve?

Probably doesn't matter; either way, it's likely you have to pull everything...

There is a drain hose that attaches to the right side of the heater box. Here is the heater control valve.

You can read about the rebuild here (it does load rather slowly):

Clay, You and paul related by any chance?

Member name is Brosky. He details the work explanations with photos.

Very nicely, BTW. Both of you.

Clay, a soft jab at Paul at your expense.
Sorry

Hey! That wasn't nice.

I'll look up the part number for the heater valve. It is a Volvo part and works perfectly. I may have some installation images as well. I'll see what I have and post when I get home tonight.

As for replacement, well it truly was an 11 on a scale of 1 - 10. Not fun.....

I bought the part from IPD. Looking back, it wasn't cheap. $162 + shipping

The part is here: https://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?strPag...0&V_ID=6087

I did drill one extra mounting hole in the back for better support....and you need to uncoil the probe.

Other than that is was a drop in piece and so far has worked very well.

I replaced it without pulling the dash completely out, but I did have the center console out & the seats. And it was still a PITA.

Here is what the car looked like when I dove in there:
