TR6 TR 6 window repair

I have a 75 TR6. Recently the side window slips out of the channel when rolling down. I have used the search engine on this site to see if previous threads on this topic exist and have come up empty. The Moss catalog shows a glazing strip that runs across the bottom of the window and the channel. Is this the piece that likely needs attention and is there anything else I should plan on replacing/ repairing while I'm doing the job? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is the glass actually slipping out of the bottom channel? If so, the rubber glazing strip in the channel may be all that requires attention. I believe that this glazing strip is all that holds the glass in the channel via a compression fit.

If the channel is coming off the regulator (crank assembly) studs, you may need either a new bottom channel or regulator assembly depending on where the problem lies.

While inside the door, I would also check the condition of the front and rear vertical channels (tracks) that the window glass slides in.

Lastly, use some care when removing the pins in the window crank and door handle, after 30 years of use, the pin sockets in the handles may have weakened to the point where they will crack very easily. One of those, "don't ask how I know" statements!

I'm not sure if you have taken the panel off of your door yet but that would be the first thing to do. Then after that you can roll your window up and down to see what the problem is. All it takes to get the handles off is that it is held in there with a little pin and you can pop the panel off with a screw driver. Good luck

Good luck getting the "little pin" back in the window crank. It's a real frustration effort.

It may help if you have an assistant. On the TR4 (which I think is similar) my wife stands on the outside of the door and presses the panel in while I put the pin back.

If this proves problematic some have used a long length of coat hanger wire notched at the point equal to the length of the pin. Insert the long wire then bend it to break it at the notch leaving a 'pin' behind. Sounds like it would work though I have never had to resort to that.

I use a pair of thin mosquito homostats to hold the pin securely and just stick it right in. Works every time! You can get a cheap pair from an automotive shop.

I use a think screwdriver and place it between the bezel and crank and then turn it to pry it open. Then I use thin needlenose pliers and the pin goes right in. Only takes me a few minutes.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Taking the door panel off and getting it back on sounds like more trouble than the window repair. By the way I just tried to add a pic of my baby as my avatar. hope it works. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
