TR6 TR-6 Water Pump Recommendations

The water pump on my 1974 TR-6 is leaking between the pulley and the housing. So it's time for a new water pump. There have been several posts on the quality of the available water pumps. Has anyone had good luck with any particular unit/supplier? TRF has a sale this weekend so I may go that way. Does anyone know of anyone who rebuilds originals? I know someone did a great how-to recently for the forum on rebuilding theirs, but I don't have the equipment. Thanks to all.

Charles Runyon of TRF said in one of his weekly emails a month or so ago, that he wasn't satisfied with the quality of the pumps available and would not sell them again until they improved.

There were none on stock at that time, so I'm assuming that he found what he wanted to sell.

Roman,

I think that anything bought before the end of last year was fine from what Charles said. It was his reorders that were the problem.

Could be.....I bought mine three years ago and I don't remember the brand name on it.

Re: Water Pump British Parts Northwest

I just ordered and installed a new 5 vane water pump from BPNW.

The order came on time, nicely packaged by the way.

The pump sure was stout and appeared well made. So far "I think" the car might be running a slight bit cooler due to the 5 vane.

Just fyi the pump has a larger locknut for the wider "end" of the shaft, but the shaft itself is the same width where the pulley slides on, so it's perfectly compatible without buying a new pulley.

I'm heading on a short trip this morning and will report more later.

Re: Water Pump British Parts Northwest

Too bad that 5 vane pump isn't made for the TR6.

Re: Water Pump British Parts Northwest

Anybody installed 1 of the hi-dollar aluminum ones yet. ?

David,

I got mine from Moss late last Fall.
1,300 miles driven on it with no problems.

Although it does "sing" as I drive down the road.

And it was a car project even a non-mechanic like
yours truly had no difficulty installing.

Welcome back, Dale.

It's been quiet without you the past three days.

hey paul, they do make a five vane one for the 6 https://www.racemettleltd.co.uk/pump.html and from what i understand the problems with keeping a 6 engine cool, with everything in good shape, is there is not enough block pressure so one of the block passages to the head can be welded up and drilled to a smaller size hole, or the pump can spin slower. its in the kastner books.

Re: Water Pump British Parts Northwest

got one from Revington about 8 years ago. Still on, still dry.

The only difficulty I had was getting a pound money order(this was before the Euro, obviously). At that time he was not taking credit cards, dunno if he is now or not.

Re: Water Pump British Parts Northwest

I'm all set for now Randy. This is good to know for anyone after the dollar goes back up in value. Today's value is not good for buying in Europe or against the Crown.

Re: Water Pump British Parts Northwest

unfortunately no its not. im still trying to put together my pi setup. i believe british frame and engine has the pumps also.

Re: Water Pump British Parts Northwest

Thanks to all for your input. I'm planning on ordering one tonight. There's a local VTR Regional coming up in less than 3 weeks, so I hope to have it back together (along with a head gasket change out) by then.
