TR6 TR-6 Trunnion Lubrication

I have always greased the trunnions, initially because I saw a zirc and assumed grease, later (after learning that oil was supposed to be used) because the grease had always worked and I didn't have a way to pump the oil.

Anyway, 25 years of TR4A (daily driver for several years) and TR250 (weekend and autocross) ownership, no problems with the trunnions.

I agree. I always greased my trunnions, even on my G-Production Spitfire race car back in the day, without any problems. A trick I use to keep grease off the brake disc is to slide a piece of a brown paper grocery bag between the trunnion and the disc backing plate.

My theory is that the various British car makers were in a competition to see who could leak
most oil. Triumph was competing with Morgan which featured sliding pillars that were pressure
fed from the engine so as to leak from all corners at once. Dripping grease was not counted for
points. Or they were just nuts??
Given the technological advances in lubrication in the last 20 years , it is just plain silly(IMHO)
to try to follow archaic recommendations from a bygone day.
