TR6 TR-6 Steel Hardtop -- fair price?

Hi, I'm looking for some guidance. I have a hardtop for a TR6 and it is the steel version. I think it is a 76 or maybe 75 if that makes a difference. It is in mint condition.

A friend of a friend is interested in it. He called today but I had no idea what to ask. Searching online has not been very helpful as I have found everything from $500 to $10,000 which to me seems like an insane range.

Could you help me out and give me an idea of what a good fair price would be?

We got a very nice one from Ebay. Wrong body color...but no body work needed. Headliner and glass all ready to go as well as everything to mount. And the seller created it for us. We paid $500 + ahipping. Saw one 6 months ago on craigslist Seattle area for about $300 in "Good" condition.
Ones I see selling on line go in the area of $750 - $800 for nice ones. Always ones out there for $1000+ that are still for sale. Gil NoCal
 
$750-1000 is basically what I had originally expected but after checking e-bay the only one listed is currently asking $1750 and google was even less helpful.

The roof is in perfect condition but it is the wrong colour for the individual so he'll have to paint it.
