TR-5: Anyone have one???

Re: What's it worth???

Jeff, you're probably right. Maybe someone like Piman will chime in and give us the low-down.

I do know that U.S. dealers could not obtain them legally because of the emissions problem. Too bad, because now, they're priced out of reach for most of us!

Re: What's it worth???

Got this out of Rogers Williams book, of the 2947 TR5's produced 995 were left hand drive......

. A guy who lives near me imported one from Belgium a couple of years ago.

This guy is in our local club. It is a LHD genuine TR5. It was a kit shipped from England and assembled in Germany or Belgium.

Even more interesting than this cars location in the states, is the my first time ever driving a TR of any stripe was this very TR5. What can I say I was hooked. It was amazing, The engine was much smoother and pulled so much better than the TR4a. Handling was it was probably about the same, I think his car was tighter overall. If you have the chance to purchase a TR5, beg, borrow or steal, it won't come around again....

How many LHD TR5s were built?

It will be very interesting to see how the auctioneers value the car. It's not rocket science, as we know. I'm not sure I'm ready to pay $25K for the car in pieces, then sink another several thou into restoration. I also know other parties who are interested in this car as well. However, I've been told I'll have first right of refusal on it.

We'll see. A TR-5 is like the Holy Grail to an old Triumph bloke like me. Numero uno LBC!

Time will tell. I'll keep you informed. Something to look forward to, for sure!

In general, I don't believe financing a classic car is a great idea. However, this would be the candidate for such a thing....

Re: What's it worth???

Thanks, but I'm with you. Financing is not what I'd choose to do, especially since this particular car will go for something near retail market value.

I might start selling off clothes, motorcycles, and other essential items to get it, though . . . /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

No doubt about it. If there is a "holy grail" Triumph, a TR-5 is it. And, a LHD drive one!! Wow. I might faint at the sight of one! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif
