Can some one please post a photo of the inside of the trunk latch. I took this apart years ago, project got side tracked due to daughter's illness, now back at it. I bought new latch from TRF and took my old one to one of my houses 788 miles away thinking I did not need it. What parts do I need for the inside and what do they lok like? Thanks

This what you're looking for?

If it's not obvious, the handle and the tang are parallel, that gets the handle pointing rearward when the boot is latched.

Here it is in place:

The arrow points to a bit of metal I had to add so the latch would be pointing straight back when closed (would otherwise been cocked slightly to the driver's side.

I was a little taken by your question. My car came without latchs or mechanisms. The spare tire cover has two mechanisms, right and left (holes are on opposite ends, and latch exits right or left). The trunk is the same as the right side spare cover. -Just to be sure, I went ahead and mounted the mechanism on the trunk, and added the handle to be sure it worked as expected.

Geo, I never noticed before, but the square handle could be instered to allow the closed/latched position to be up, down, left or right. I don't know what position is correct.

I just went through all of my archived TR pic's and found only two that showed the trunks. They were both in the open position and the trunk handles were in the horizontal position. I am inferring, that when closed position they would be straight up and down That's the way I did mine anyway. Until someone tells me I'm wrong and can prove it, I'm sticking with that position.

Texas Knucklehead, I just sent you a PM.

The handle should point back/down when the latch is closed. IIRC there should be a stop built into the handle base, but there is certainly nothing wrong with adding one to the latch as Geo shows.
