TR2/3/3A TR 3A Heater Bracket Question

Trying to get my passenger side heater bracket into place and the heater is in the way. Well not really the heater but the demister "Y" adaptor which is mounted to the heater on the right side. The left side bracket is installed and all seems to line up well but not so with the right side. Is there some trick to it or am I having a bad heater bracket day?

Thanks, Tinkerman

Wish I could be there to help, Dick. I just read the instructions for "fitting the Smiths heater" in my official shop manual, and I can't think of what to suggest. They don't even mention loosening the two dash stays, which I think would be essential to lining things up...

I remember that being a bit tight. Try loosening all of the other mounting screws on the left side...the straight bracket itself, and the screws for the heater bracket. That may give you enough wiggle room to get the other straight bracket in place. Also, make sure that the "Y" adapter is pushed in to the heater all the way.

Dick - Did you put in a new battery box ? If so, it's quite possible that the angle brackets on the bottom left and right corners of the battery box up under the dash - are too high. The new battery box on mine had the right dimensions up from the corners but the box came about 1/2" too shallow so the front ends of the dashboard supports are too high where they are secured to the brackets on the rear of the battery box. This takes away vertical space for the heater and its bracket.

Yep new battery box. I have nothing to compare it to though. The problem seems to be width space and not height space. I will loosen everything up tomorrow and see what happens. That bracket and the "Y" adaptor are in serious dispute over space. Can't remember where I got the battery box. It would have been Moss or TRF and it was 5 or 6 years ago. Those brackets are mounted at the left and right of the edge of the box.

Thanks, Tinkerman

Tink,

Would pics help at all? Can post some if required of how mine looked when I took it apart.

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

Yes Scott, your right, different area, but the same pictures. Thanks for the link back to them. I don't remember seeing those pictures, but I remember Don talking about the clear plastic hose. They will really help. I notice, what I suspect is a thick rubber washer in between the heater mount and the bracket. I'm going to go in that direction, it may be just enough to give me the clearance that I need.
Cheers, Tinkerman
