TR2/3/3A TR-3A fuel tank felt

I know there is felt applied to the two fuel tank cells on the interior (cockpit) side that the back seat panel rest against and felt on the two saddles the fuel tank sits on. Is there felt between the straps and fuel tank? I seem to recall there was some felt between the fuel cell the pan-is that correct? Again I tok this thing apart years ago and am now reassembling. Thanks Tom

I believe so. I'm in a similar state with things torn apart but I have straps with felt under them. And yes, at least for my pre-60K car it had felt under the tank too.

Same here, Straps with felt on both of my post 60000 cars. I can take a photo for you if you like as they are hanging on the garage wall currently.

Photo would help immensely! I have great notes for most things but not all. I started this re-build like 7 years ago but about 5 years ago one of my daughters got very ill and the re-build got put on hold. I am back at it!
 
If you have any metal-to-metal contact, it will eventually squeak. So yes, there should be felt under the straps as well as where the tank sits against the body.

I found some suitable felt at a "big box" store, but that was over 20 years ago, they might not carry it today. If not, there's always MMC
 
Just a heads up, the felt I got from Moss was too thick for use under the tank straps. They bulged out the straps far enough so I couldn't properly install the fiberboard interior piece that covers the tank. I found some thinner stuff at a local crafts store.
 
Good question as I will be tackling this soon. If I understand correctly then, there is felt on both sides along the entire length of the strap and also felt strips under the tank. Cheers, Mike
 
For what its worth, I dont like to use felt in places that get wet because it holds moisture and then there is a good chance of corrosion if the wet/damp felt is in contact with metal. An old innertube cut to fit can work pretty well instead in wet spots.
