TR 3 Conv. top help needed

Does this look correct? It seems the frame should be more inside the car when its down. When folded it lays on the gas filler. The top fits great when its up but I cant get the boot on when its down :frown:

Where you attach the hood frame assembly the bracket points up like a pyramid, hope the pic helps.

Re: Conv. top help needed

no not right. lift it back up and swivel the arms the opposite way. as you lower it back down, the back will fold down lower and be within the cockpit.

In case the above two answers aren't clear, you need to fold the "dog leg" joint when you put the bows down. The joint I've indicated below should fold to the rear with the bows still in the upright position. Then when you lay the bows back, they will fit inside the cockpit rail.

Of course have the boot off and out of the way when folding/fitting the rack back against the rear of the car. Boot will fit over the rack, hiding it completely.

Sorry guys. Still confused. I cant seem to get it right :wall:

Ok, lets try it this way. After you remove the top, but while the bows are still erect; hold the main bow in one hand while you smack the indicated point with the heel of the other hand. The joint may be stiff if the bows haven't been put down for a long time (or since being painted), but it should fold eventually. Be careful not to get your fingers pinched! After both sides have folded partway, you can usually press down on the main bow to get the dog leg to fold some more.

Once both joints are collapsed to about a 45 degree angle, then you can lay the bows down and hopefully wind up with the position that Russ showed above.

PS, It's hard to tell for sure, but your photo kind of looks like the screws through the bracket into the body have oval heads instead of flat. If so, you might want to change them, as the dog leg is probably going to drag on the screw heads and rub off the paint.

Yes, thanks the screws are incorrect and are dragging. The main issue was the bracket was backwards and wouldn't fold the right way because the stop was on the wrong side. I pulled them and flipped them and now all is good. Thanks guys, new screws tomorrow.

I've put the vinyl cover over the bows now. Does it just lay on top and attach with only 2 fasteners inside the car? So no fasteners around the back where the soft top attaches?

Screws have to go. Need to be flush. As Randall said they will rub or prevent you from rotating the arms down. The boot cover needs lift the dot fasteners on it just like the conv. top. Use the same pegs to fasten to.
