Toyota T50 5-speed conversion ??

There is a guy trying to sell a complete kit and trnasmission on the MGExperience.

Has anyone else ever heard of putting a Toyota T50 5-speed transmission in a Spridget? Apparently there are even conversion kits that were sold at one time in Australia. I just found this one on eBay in England:

Only curious - not interested in it for myself.

I know of a couple people in Australia with these in Morris Minors, and maybe someone with one in a Spridget (can't recall who now), but it should be apparent these won't fit in a Spridget without cutting the crossmember and probably some major tunnel remodeling. You can tell from the short driveshaft, that the gearbox is considerably longer, and my guess is the shifter will be a goo 4-6" further back. As I understand it, these gearboxes are quite robust, but not an ideal fit like the Datsun.

Maybe not the T50 then, what was the gearbox in the Starlet ? G something?

Nevermind ... google found it. K50 ... those fit with less mods.

I'da sworn the T50 went in w/o mods, boy is my memory getting bad.
