well my austin is in st. luis.
my question is this im going to be renting from uhaul, and they offer the tow dolly, and the auto transport(just a trailor), will i be able to tow her with the 2 wheel tow dolly as it is almost 1/2 the price or am i going to have to use the trailor?
 
mofiki...in my opinion if it were a short trip (50 miles or less) the dolly probably OK...but since your talking ST Louie to South Dakota I would recommend up on a trailor...
 
Will a Mini even fit on a U-haul car hauler trailer? Is the track wide enough? Small narrow cars often have problems fitting onto those trailers.
 
shawn...good point...I use a trailer with a solid floor so I don't have to worry...not sure if the rental places have that setup but otherwise you're right it'll be tight up on the edge of the rails otherwise...
 
When I bought my Mini, I also rented a U-Haul trailer with the two platforms (not the solid one) and it was tight. It has maybe 1/2" between the inside wall of the tires and the raised edge from the platform.

Just make sure the car is secured properly, so it doesn't bounce of the trailer
 
I saw a website where two guys rented a 19 foot UHaul truck and actually drove the mini inside it. Anyone else seen this site?
 
Peter..that's actually the best way to do it...but the most costly rental....a lot of home moving firms handle it the same way...
 
i found a trailer today at the outdoor rec place on base, they rent out camping and recreation equipment. ended up running $100 for a week rental, of a decent flatbed. so all thats left is driving down and picking her up /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
 
mofiki...sounds great...hopefully it comes with ramps...also the most important thing next to the trailer is how it's tied down...don't know if they have those items at base as well...but that baby needs to be permanently melded into the trailer....I know there are lots of recs but the best I've seen are the straps that go over each tire...has a clip lock on the end and ratchet to tighten down. I've had cars delivered to me by private carriers and that's one of the best reusable setups I've seen..and don't forget to check it every rest stop or more!!!.GOOD LUCK!!
