Tourist Trophy Garage in New Orleans

In my search for a replacement frame for my TR I've come across what seems like a great deal at Tourist Trophy Garage in New Orleans. Unfortunately, all I have is phone contact with him - no website or photos of the frame. He states that it's in excellent condition.

Does anyone on the forum have any experience with this establishment? Just looking for some feedback before I make a long drive down and back.

Thanks!

Ray,
Is the address on Tchopotoulis Street in New Orleans. If it is, I can give you some info. I know the guy.

Ray,
I just Googled Tourist Trophy Garage and it is the garage on Tchopotoulis (chop-a-too-lis). Owned by Elliot Evans, nice old coot that has been in business for a long time. IMHO, was thinking of retiring and Hurricane Katrina probably convinced him to do so. I went by there a week ago and I don't think he was open for business. Probably trying to sell off some old stock. Elliot was a racer in his day, many years ago. He always had an XKE or two, and other various and sundry British Cars being repaired. I think he was quite reputable in his day, just time to move on. I would be willing to bet that if he says it is good, he is not one to BS. Give him a try, give you a chance to see New Orleans like you have never seen it before. Good luck.

Yep - a reputable business that has been around a while. Never dealt with them personally when I was there, but heard only positive comments. Another of the Forum members, Paul Johnson, probably knows of them as well.

I have known Elliott Evans since the early 60s, and know him to be an honest person. I'd buy on his word. Was in N.O. a few days ago, and am told that he is still in business, but things are still quite slow there, so keep trying. If you have no luck getting him, I can get in touch with some friends who talk to him regularly.

Thank you everyone for the input. Glad to hear such positive comments for Mr. Evans. Looks like I'll be making a trip to New Orleans in the near future! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
