My bro has some of these things. Gave 'smits one this morning.

He was trying to get the area franchise but these guys got there first. Torture tools

Bloody things are diabolical. Now he's stuck with half a dozen of 'em.

I think I pulled a back muscle. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

"...elegantly simple..."

Of course it is!

I shoulda got a photo of Herself 'elegantly' wallowin' around on it. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

How the heck does that thing work?

Umm... "marginally" is my conclusion. I'll keep me ol' Raleigh 10-speed "SuperCourse-II", thankewverrymuch.

jesus Doc.... stop sneaking around in my life. I had an early 70's Super Course that was my daily driver in college.... in 1988.... Got a '74 Raleigh 3speed with the leather hide seat and gorgeous fender-beads still in the collection.... some knucklehead (me) left the Super Course on my balcony in my beach town and some crackhead climbed up the railing and ran off with it.

Let's see... you have my Nikon collection.... my record collection.... LBC collection is a given.....

Next thing you're gonna tell me is that you have a collection of old Fire-King jadeware and Fostoria glass from yer mum.

I still have my "Grand Sport" from the early '70's.
Still in almost perfect condition.

There was an infomercial on these on TV early yesterday morning. I suspect that going uphill means carrying it while you walk!

hehehehehe....too much......I've a pair of gold 1972 "Sprite 27" Raleigh 10-ers stored on the 2nd floor of the GarageMahal - a male & a female model...a few years ago I had them rejuvenated by a local bike shop; took 'em for a ride & realized they were ready for display 'cause my bod doesn't like that little seat anymore!

I kinda expected that, with all the appreciation here of classic British cars, there would be some similar appreciation of classic British bikes. So, I'm not surprised to hear some positive words about Raleighs.

The British bicycle industry, in the mid 1900s, was as important and influential as the automobile industry. It was more oriented toward practical bicycles, although there were plenty of lightweight racers and "club bicycles." The main difference between these and, say, the Italian bikes, was that the British racing bikes always could be viewed as dual-purpose; witness the lamp bracket on the fork of a purported racing bike.

My own favorite is Hetchins; I also have a 1964 Carlton, made after the Raleigh acquisition of the Carlton factory, so I suppose it's arguably a Raleigh. Pix at https://www.nonlintec.com/bikepages

My old rusting LBB is a 10 speed Dunelt (also a Raleigh product, methinks!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
