Tornado Watch

We had some bad storms/tornadoes through central Illinois this evening as well...all clear now.

basil, that doesnt sound good, a couple of months ago we were hit with such fierce storms we lost elect. power for 5 days, since i had no heater running in my fish tank i lost all my beautiful angel fish some were 8-9 years old, lots of folks lost all thier refrigirated food, still every 3-4 days the power goes off for a few minutes most likely because more trees are being removed near power lines, it rained so hard my rental property had 14-16 inches of water in the basement for the first time in 59 years, the state of ct. brought down tree removal crews from canada for the heavy stuff, they did a really great job but we are still cleaning up the mess, now thier talking "tornados"?, :eeek:

Sounds like a normal day 'round here.

At British Car Day today, the PA announcer said that the area was under a tornado WARNING. There was a lot of hurriedly taking down of canopies and putting up of tops when someone corrected the announcement. It was just a tornado WATCH. A sigh of relief went up.

We even had a funnel cloud or 2 appear on Friday

Just learned I have to deal with a 75 year old oak tree which fell victim to the wind 'n weather in western PA. :madder:

Why do you have to deal with it Doc? not likely it's gonna fall on your house from there.heheheh.
Actually, we were under tornado watch today. Morning was hot and muggy. mid 80s, torrential rains with bright blue sky in between, then it turned really windy, more showers, lots more cloud cover, more wind, and the temp plummeted. It's now around 60 degrees. Insane weather day.

I still own the home in PA... mile or two away from BeaveRun. Winds dropped the tree and it landed so it blocked part of a four lane highway!

You're the only person I know that can stop traffic 2000 miles away. I figured it was property from back when..

That's why he's known in some circles as "the Master of chaos" :jester:

Those tornadoes certainly caused a lot of dammage.

Stuart.

Ancestral stompin' grounds. The tree is likely 100+ years old, the highway is 60. State says it's MY issue, not on their right-of-way... :madder:

This is gonna set us back a ton. No Elan rebuild for ME any time soon. :cryin:

Entropy all over the east coast.

More like Dr. Evil.

Actually sorry to hear Doc.

You know, my wife is from Kansas and you also know for years that was the heart of tornado country. She and her brothers and sisters survived being in one when she was a kid, which literately tore the house apart. What tightens us up now is when these storm chasers see one, show it on TV and then jump up and down laughing for joy saying things like, isn't it a beauty, isn't it the best. Then they show a farm or a group of houses being destroyed and in turn destroying the lives of people, some who have worked all their lives for what they have and now they have nothing. Sorry, but to me it's a disgusting presentation of a very important business, the science of weather and they should be called on the carpet for it. They portray a tornado like it's anything but a killer. Tornadoes are killers, nothing but and there's nothing about them that is funny! JMHO. PJ

:iagree: our insatiable appetite for that kind of stuff is appalling. Course I feel the same about pretty much all reality TV. (side show TV)

:iagree: +1

I'm torn on that one. I fully agree with what you said, but on the other hand I Always wanted to be a storm chaser. I don't find good or beauty in the devastation, but a funnel cloud is absolutely fascinating and incredible to see. I can appreciate why they do what they do.
If those guys can use their fascination to develop early warning systems, or even some sort of disruption system that would dissipate a funnel entirely, that would be wonderful.
All that said, if the shows are helping those guys fund their research, and advancing what they can do to help, that's one thing, otherwise they definitely "stick it in the face" of victims of those storms. and that's not right.
