Hey folks...

I've got my TR6 back on the road, and running great! However, today, in Central California, it rained! Unheard of... I had to put the top up for awhile...

Anyway, if I am driving along at a good clip and hit a bump, one of the latches for the convertible top will inevitably let loose. I'd hate to see what would happen if they both did!

Have others run into this problem, and if so, what's the fix?

That's a new one for me. Are the pins actually locking down inside the top of the windshield frame?

Bill...this can happen if the latch arms were installed on the wrong sides. They will 'sorta' hold but let loose on the first bump. Easy to check and easy to fix...Rob

I tried switching the latch arms, and found that they were then not in a position to even begin to latch!

Anyone else with a suggestion?

I might have to try and post pictures of the problem...

Maybe they've been Pedro-ized?

Are you positive the latches are for a TR6?

just a thought

Bill, I had a latch disassemble once.
when I screwed it back together it didn't want work right. If I remember correctly I tried loosening it up a bit (not getting the screws completely tight)thereby allowing a little slop if you will...that allows me to easlily latch the top. My hood is up and down all the time since all I have for protection is a car cover. The frequent use can cause the latch(es) to come apart.

Bill - post some pictures. Close-ups: Latch closed, latch open, etc. I think we're kinda lost just guessing at the situation ...

That's a good idea. I'll take some pictures, hopefully later today, and post what I can.

Thanks!

I think this may be one of those "self-correcting" situations!

Lately, I've been driving the car with the top up, and I think it's "working in" the rubber stops that sit on the top of the windshield frame.

Whatever the reason, some of the bumps that would release the latch a few weeks ago don't do it now!
