I have a '67 BJ8 Phase II and when I started to refurbish my top frame I found out that the U-shaped metal bar, which is usually riveted to the back bow is totally missing.

Now, before I purchase one here in Germany and start to reassemble the soft top I first would like to find out what the function of this part is. So can anybody give me some background information on this issue.

On the frame top there is a flap that is there and you have to fold it around the rear metal bar that keeps it in place

As stated it gets wrapped with the flap of material inside the top to help give the top shape when it's up , without it the rear of the top above the window would be saggy .
I have a spare top frame in my spares pile which I sabotaged to fix mine . I'm sure it still has the back bow your looking for if your interested ?

The U-shaped channel is riveted to the rear bow of the top frame after the fabric "curtain" of the top is wrapped and glued around the bow. The channel secures the curtain, the main purpose of which is to properly locate the top fabric fore and aft before stretching and clipping the rear edge to the rear trim rail.

Thank you all for your quick and profound answers, which make very much sense to me.

#Healey Nut, thanks for your offer, but it's not the back bow which is missing, it's the U-channel. Since it is no problem to get a very similar part made of aluminum in a hardware store here in Germany it wouldn't make sense to send it from Ottawa.

Happy Healey!
