Top Down!

I haven't been on here much lately, since it's been too hot to do any work on the TR6. But today I did put the top down and took it for a spirited drive, during which I cackled to myself maniacally at the sound of the raspy exhaust pipes above 4000rpm. Afterwards I parked her under some colourful trees in our garden. Photos below. This proved to be a mistake, as when I returned later on, the car was full of pink blossoms!

The only way to go IMHO. I have had to put the top up twice since I got the car back on the road in 06. Both times when I got caught by a stray downpour miles from home; driving with the top up was just horrible.

The car is looking good, Julian. Crepe Myrtles. Gotta clean those out of the pool every day. BTW, the Crepe Myrtle is host to aphids that excrete sap in little droplets. That might get a little sticky if you don't wash it off.
What else you got to do, right?

Yes, be very glad. I went to early church before our annual British Car Show this year and rolled the windows up but not far enough. A Robin got in during service and of course, left bird blossoms all over. Fortunately, only on vinyl so the clean up wasn't too bad.

Well done Julian. It is a great feeling taking the TR for a drive after a bit of a break. Can't imagine it being too hot to drive the car though. It is only this last week that it has been warm and dry here. We have actually just had five days in a row with no rain (Well, just a couple of showers)!

Another spirited drive today ... I notice that when the car is warming up, the oil pressure is about 75psi at revs, and 50psi at idle. After it's thoroughly warmed up, I see 50psi at revs, and 15psi at idle. Is that OK? I'm assuming the oil is thinner after warming up, which explains the lower readings.

My temp. gauge is always hovering just below the red. If I sit in traffic, then it sometimes goes into the red. I don't have the radiator shroud fitted yet: would that improve the cooling? Or should I consider fitting an electric fan?

Nick: Sometime I'd enjoy some good Scottish weather. I certainly envy you your spectacular and quiet roads.

Yeah, but you might start putting your spare change aside against some new bearings in a few years.

They weren't all that good to start with, and being 30-40 years old does not improve things. A poor ground path between the engine and dash can cause problems, as can a malfunctioning (or poorly grounded) voltage stabilizer (on the back of the speedo). There have also been some issues with vendors selling replacement senders that don't match the originals very well.

That said, the shroud will definitely help. The fan will help at low speeds and in traffic; but can actually aggravate problems (if you have them) at higher speeds.
