Done!

Spent another 3 hours with the parts car today, and got everything I needed. A-arms are probably not reusable, but that's okay. Did get:

  • front disc brake spindles (whole assembly including a-arms, steering arms, etc)
  • front sway bar
  • front springs
  • rear hubs
  • rear axle half shafts, both sides
  • rear drum brake backing plate assembly
  • parking brake rods
  • 3.90 diff
After a clean up and some rebuilding I think I'll have some good, useable parts. Don't think I'll wind up using the 3.90 diff but I couldn't just leave it there -- heck, there was even still oil in the rear end (made quite the mess) so there's some hope it's still in decent shape.

All in all a worthwhile adventure. Sawzall and breaker bar were my good friends for sure!

Oh yeah, I was working on stands on a trailer. Yes, despite my best efforts the trailer did eventually tip and the car fell off the jacks. No I was not hurt one bit as I was taking all precautions with extra wheels under the car to provide backup and I was NEVER under the car at any time. I knew it was a sketchy setup but that's what I had to work with so extra care was taken.

Once the dust settled I got right back to work on the tipped trailer. You do what you got to do.

What car is that, Drew. The one you got the parts from looks like maybe a rubber bumper car and if so may have had a 3.7 rear.

Kurt.

Parts car was a '75 Midget, so yes rubber bumper car. Should be a 3.90 still for this year.

Almost didn't take the diff, even had all the tools cleaned and put away. Had to wait for the owner to get home from work anyways, so I decided to see if I could get it loose without getting under the car (was not about to do more than reach in through the wheel wells). Bolts all came off with minimum fuss and there was even still oil in there -- so home with me it came.

Had a 3.90 in the Tunebug and even with the strong 1275 the gearing wasn't great for the mountain roads around here. Still, nice to have it just in case and all it took was a few extra minutes.

Now I just need to find a good 1275 core and off I go. Would be helpful to find a big stack of $100s as well.
