I had no idea they used ANYTHING in Washington State besides sand and gravel to throw onto the snow/ice. If they're using a melter it's most likely Calcium Carbonate ... (at least i think thats the stuff I sometimes see bags of for snow melting.. but again I didn't know that state used anything ever... !??) Oh look here.. They spray some stuff on I-90 east of Seattle at least up in the foothills. I've seen the trucks do it and also see the stripes of liquid on the pavement. Especially on bridges these chilly mornings.
